In general:
I have read other threads in this section regarding this common issue but have been left alone with: "...see if something looks 'not right'."

I am not involved very deeply in all this scripting stuff, WMI in detail, programming, etc.

Here is a definition of my 'not right' and what has helped me to solve my problem. Maybe there are others like me, who just want to get this very fine Hyena Tool working without having studied Informatics.

The source of my Problem:
My computer, running Windows 2000 pro, has had wrong settings in the section:
"Default Properties\Enable Distributed COM on this Computer"

Those settings prevented Hyena to connect to the remote "WMI-sites".

Solving part:
After Installation of Hyena, WMI section was not functional, due to this:
...Win32 HRESULT 0x80070005 => Access is Denied.

Someone in an other thread mentioned 'dcomcnfg'.
This I started via: Start\Run...

Now Windows 2k opens the DCOM-settings-dialogue.
With Windows XP you have to follow this "path" in addition to get the same dialogue:
"Console Root\Component Service\Computers\My Computer\Properties"

There I had to:
ensure that "Default Properties\Enable Distributed COM on this Computer" is 'enabled'
and to choose the "Default Authetication Level" which is 'Packet'
and to choose the "Default Impersonation Level" which is 'Impersonate'
The standard settings were different.

Those settings are working fine when trying to connect from Win2k to WinXP and Win2k.
(without any further setup on remote machines)

This information helped me to find the right settings: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wmisdk/wmi/connecting_between_different_operating_systems.asp

Thanks to all authors of the other helpful threads…but it was not enough for me.

Best Regards
Carsten
